The Mezz

The project comprises extensive refurbishment of the existing centre and construction of a new 5,000 m2 two-level car park deck. The refurbishment included upgrading external facades, roof repairs, new entry statements, upgrading malls and toilet facilities, and reconfigured retail tenancies, including extensive services upgrades. The new car park involved reviewing different design options for the upper deck, retaining walls, access roads and major services relocations.
 
The final design used a Deltacore floor system on precast beams for the upper deck and a post-tensioned slab over the retail areas to meet waterproofing requirements.
Consideration had to be given to keeping the existing centre open for trading, minimising disruption to retail tenancies, keeping services “live”, maintaining adequate car parking, and carefully staging construction activities. The car park had been designed and constructed in two stages, with retail tenancies in about 12 staging areas. Some of the retail fit-outs were included to expedite opening times.
